Marketing expertise when you need it – and only when you need it.

Marketing consulting

Sometimes, an organisation needs experienced marketing help. It may be in lieu of hiring a full-time person. It may be to add skills to the current team. It may be to help with a defined project or campaign. I’m here to help.

How I can help

On-demand marketing director/manager: add proven marketing expertise to the management team on a retained basis.

Strategic planning: creating, or helping to create, a marketing plan for the organisation.

Campaign planning: creating, or helping to create, a marketing plan for a defined service or initiative.

Proposition development: helping to define go-to-market propositions for the organisation or a defined service.

Content-marketing strategy: creating, or helping to create, a content-marketing strategy and plan.

Publicity/PR strategy: creating, or helping to create, a publicity strategy for the organisation, a service, or specific campaign.

Project lead: helping to define, plan and implement a specific marketing campaign or project.

Project support: adding capability and resources to the current team, on an ongoing basis or for a specific project.

Coaching and mentoring: I can coach and mentor marketing teams, or individuals, assisting them with their current tasks and helping them to reach their goals.

Marketing support: I can provide a marketing or business team with an additional pair of eyes or hands. Teams can draw on my experience as and when it’s needed – for a few minutes’ chat for a few days’ work.

Example projects

  • I prepared several award submissions for a digital learning company, resulting in both wins and nominations for global awards. The projects encompassed working with the client to obtain the brief, interviewing the client’s clients to gain an independent perspective and then preparing and submitting the nominations – each written against different, strict criteria. I also worked with the client’s management team to help them prepare for their final presentations before judges.

  • Helping a higher education organisation to shift the focus of its operations and marketing, to compete on a stronger footing with commercial learning providers. Working with the management team to define the organisation’s goals and opportunities and helping them to plan for change and growth while managing both challenges and obstacles to progress.

  • Assessing all aspects of the housing association’s communications – including letters, telephone support, marketing in print and online – via a comprehensive audit which included secret shopping. Working with the senior management to implement changes based on recommendations.

  • I’ve worked with many organisations in several sectors, to help them understand their competitors’ marketing and communications strengths and weaknesses, to inform my clients’ strategic and campaign planning. This included detailed audits of marketing communications – encompassing websites, social media, advertising and publicity – alongside secret shopping of sales and support processes. The findings are usually benchmarked against the same audit of the client’s organisation.

  • I have worked with many organisations, creating content for online and offline marketing – including all of the content (text, images and videos) for dozens of websites, direct marketing campaigns, advertising, content marketing campaigns, events and exhibitions, white papers, brochures, annual reports and more. I’ve worked with companies in almost every sector, including several charities, and dozens of learning providers and recruitment companies.

  • I worked with a leading recruitment company to help grow its market awareness from virtually zero to a surveyed eighty per cent of people working within its sector. Although I also helped them with marketing strategy and website development, the key activity was a concerted content marketing campaign, based on workplace attitudes and salaries in its sector – supported by publicity and social media activity.

  • I helped a global technology company to launch new products into both the resale channel and direct to enterprise customers – around the world. New products included both hardware and software. I assisted with proposition development, branding, campaign planning and creation of marketing materials, including videos in several languages. I also helped the company launch three websites.

  • I helped a leading provider of healthcare-based services for the financial sector to restructure what was a complex marketing proposition into a range of services which were more clearly defined, better targeted and communicated far more clearly. This included multiple product launches, using publicity, direct marketing and online content such as video explainers and case studies.
